To Begin
1. Enter ARTstor:
Click on Search / Browse for Images on bottom right side of homepage
2. Create Individual LOGON:
Click on Register / Logon on right side of screen
Enter your UIUC email and create a password
Click on Register
*Note: You can search and view images without registering. However, in order to save and create image groups, you must logon.
To Search for Images:
1. KEYWORD SEARCH:
From the search page under Keyword Search, type in an artist name, a movement, genre, subject, etc. (i.e. Rembrandt, Impressionism, Landscape)
*Note: For a more thorough search select “All Collections” in box entitled “Select a Collection".
* Note: In order to find a collective group of images created by an artist, use advanced search.
2. ADVANCED SEARCH:
From the search page find Advanced Search on the top green navigation bar.This will allow you to search within specific data fields (creator, title, location, subject, geographic area, date)
3. Decide upon search terms (words) that are related to your search at hand
4. Specify how you are searching by selecting specific data fields
5. Use the “and ” , “or” , or “not” operator on the pull down menu to combine these terms as you create the search.
EXAMPLE:
Type: “Rembrandt” in “Creator”
Select: AND
Type: “Landscape” in “Subject”
Click on “ Search” or “Enter”
This search produces all of Rembrandt's Landscapes that ARTstor indexes.
