I.                    Logon

a.       Click on Search/Browse for Images

b.      Click on Register in the top right corner to register for a FREE account (this will enable you to use ALL functions of ARTstor)

 

 

II.                 Search Images

a.       Keyword Search (search option available on Home page)

-         type in the name of an artist (i.e. Matisse), Type of Work (i.e. photography), Period (i.e. impressionism), etc.

-         select All Collections in the Select Collection pull down menu (this is the most comprehensive search)

*Note: typing in the name of an artist using this search method will not only pull up material produced by the artist but also works where the artist is a subject or by artists who were influenced or taught by the artist.  In order to produce results that include ONLY works created by that artist use the Advanced Search option below.

b.      Advanced Search (search option available on the green toolbar at the top of every page)

-         type in one or a combination of keywords in specific fields by choosing those fields in the provided pull down menus.  (i.e. Creator, Title, Subject, Material, etc.)

 

 

III.               Viewing Images and Information

a.       Your results from either search will appear in one or multiple pages of thumbprints.  Double click on image for image to enlarge.

- Use and signs to zoom in and out of desired spaces on the image

- Use the double arrow icon to return the image to its original size

- Use the i icon to pull up information on the image

- Use the icon with 3 bullets and 3 lines to produce a list of all images in your set results.  Click on any title for that image to appear.

- Use the grey box with green line on the top icon to enlarge the image

- Use the disk icon to save the image to a folder or any other desired location

b.      Double click on text below image for image and corresponding information to enlarge

-         Use the Information and Image Properties tabs to view biographical and technical information about the image. 

 

 

IV.              Add Images to a Group

*Note: You MUST create an Image Group in order to download images from ARTstor into the Offline Image Viewer (ARTstor’s presentation software)

a.       After searching for images select those you wish to save to a group by clicking on the thumbnail image once.  A yellow border will appear around the image. 

b.      Go to Image Groups on the top navigation bar and select Save Selected Images into Group

c.       A window will appear with 2 pull down menus.  The first is the pull down menu for folders.  All registered users are given a My Work Folder folder. Other folders can be created with Instructor Privileges

d.      Use the radio buttons on the bottom of the screen and select Create new group

e.       To create a new group, merely click inside the text area of the pull down menu and type in the desired name.

f.        Click either Save or Save and Open to see the contents of the group you just created.

 

 

V.                 View Image Groups

a.       Go to Image Groups on the top navigation bar and select Open Image Group

b.      A window with appear asking you to select the Folder and then the subsequent Group.

c.       Click on Open

d.      Images will appear on screen as thumbnails

e.       Double click on images to enlarge

 

 

I.                    Shared Folders

View

a.       Under Tools click on Access Shared Folders

b.      A window will prompting you to enter your full name and provide the password that which your instructor gave you.

c.       Click Register

d.      “A confirmation message will appear, informing you that you have successfully registered to the named folder and have Read Access, which will allow you to view the image Groups in that shared folder.”

e.       “After you click “OK” in the confirmation message, you should see that shared folder listed in the “View Image Groups” drop-down menu on the Welcome Page.”

f.        “A confirmation message will also inform you that “A private shared folder: <name> (your initials) has been created for you.”  This means that your Instructor has created private Student Work Folders for all the registrants to his/her shared folder. 

g.       This folder will allow you to engage in private, interactive, online course instruction with your Instructor. 

 

II.                 Add Comments to Personal Notes and View Instructor Comments

a.       Double click on Text below thumbnail to access Personal Notes  and Instructor Comment areas

b.      Window will appear with 4 tabs, the last two being Instructor’s Commentary and Personal Notes

c.       Click on tab to view Instructor Commentary

d.      Click on tab to view Personal Notes area and double click in cream area to prompt a text cursor for individuals comments

 

 

 

 

III.               Personal Collections

Upload Images

a.       Under Tools click on Personal Collection Image Upload

b.      A window will appear with 5 attachment spaces

c.       Use the Browse buttons to select images from your hard drive that you would like to upload into your Personal Collections folder.

*Note: These images can be directly imported into the Offline Image Viewer (OIV) for use in a presentation OR just use it as an online storage for your images.  You are given 500mb of space.

           

            View/Edit Images

a.       Under the Tools menu click on Personal Collection Administration to view or edit image information.

b.      Click Browse to see the thumbnails of all images in your folder

*Note: from here you can double click an image, as you would any image from ARTstor, to enlarge it or see its corresponding information.

 

c.       Click Edit to attach information to the image (i.e. creator, date, etc.)

d.      Click New Category to create separate “folders” for your images (Use the “drag and drop” method to move images from one category to another)
