Faculty and Academic Professional Positions University Library is the third largest academic library in the United States. It houses more than 21 million items, which includes nearly 9.5 million volumes, over 12 million non-print items and over 90,000 periodicals and journals. The Library receives over one million visitors to the online catalog each week, contains 47 individual libraries and currently employs 100 faculty and 300 staff members. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is a public, land-grant university that was chartered in 1867, under the name of the Illinois Industrial University. There are over 150 programs of study at UIUC, with more than 80 research centers, laboratories and institutes. The University employs 2,000 faculty members and serves over 37,000 students; undergraduate, graduate and professional. Urbana-Champaign
is located about 135 miles south of Chicago and
is a diverse community of over 100,000.
