Accessing Electronic Books through netLibrary
The University Library provides a growing collection of electronic books through netLibrary. After establishing a personal account in netLibrary, users can browse the netLibrary titles that the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has purchased and “check out” books for pre-established loan periods (usually either four or twenty-four hours). Account holders can use netLibrary from anywhere in the world.
NetLibrary accounts are limited to current UIUC affiliates who have a NetID. To create your account, please follow these instructions:
If you are ON CAMPUS, connect to netLibrary through the link on the Library and Information Science (LIS) Library’s Express Links page at www.library.uiuc.edu/lsx/express.html; then click on the “create an account” link and fill out the form.
If you are OFF CAMPUS, please contact the Information Desk at (217) 333-2290 for assistance with the form. Be prepared to provide the following information:
The identification number from your campus ID;
- a user name and password of your own choosing (to protect your privacy, do not use any of your existing user names and passwords);
- a security question and answer that netLibrary can use to confirm your identity in case you forget your password; and
- your first name, last name, street address (optional), phone number (optional), country, and email address.
UIUC’s netLibrary holdings include about 100 books in Internet studies and library science, purchased with funding from the Friends of the Library, along with a growing number of general reference works. The Library also provides access to many more titles through its participation in the Illinois Digital Academic Library (IDAL). IDAL titles primarily include the fields of education, health, computer science, and business. Records for netLibrary books are included in the online catalog with URLs for easy linking.
Sue Searing, LIS librarian, is very interested in your reactions to using netLibrary as well as your suggestions for new titles to acquire in e-book format. Please e-mail her at searing@uiuc.edu.
