Electronic Reserve Service Benefits Faculty and Students

The electronic reserve service provided by the Media & Reserve Center at the Undergraduate Library offers a number of benefits to faculty and students. Faculty can submit materials for library staff to post online, eliminating the need to photocopy multiple articles, book chapters, etc.; check on the status of electronic reserves without leaving their homes or offices; and use links to connect students directly to materials through Illinois Compass (WebCT) or course websites.

Students can access and print out electronic reserves from any Internet-connected computer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Research indicates that students read more reserve material if it is offered electronically and that usage is heavy during the late night and early morning hours when physical libraries are closed.

Faculty and instructors are encouraged to visit the Media & Reserve Center website at www.library.uiuc.edu/ugl/mrc/mrc.html for more details and instructions on placing materials on electronic reserve.
