Digitization Services Available to Faculty Faculty are encouraged to utilize the services of the Digital Media Resource Center (DMRC) for special projects such as digitizing maps, historic posters, or photographs. DMRC is part of the Library's Digital Imaging and Media Technology Initiative, which partners with campus units to provide widespread access to educational resources through digitization. In today's world, technology is an important part of education, and new ways to prepare and present information continue to emerge. One of these methods is digitization: creating digital images of physical items that can be shared among individuals and institutions. Through digitization, high-quality images are created through scanning, digital photography, or some other process. These images then can be posted on the Internet or saved in an electronic database for viewing by an unlimited number of users. DMRC specializes in digitization advice and assistance. Areas of service include scanning text and graphics, digital image editing and manipulation, multimedia indexing and metadata creation, and storage and delivery of multimedia information. Much of the focus involves collaborating with faculty to digitize library collections that support research. Examples of projects can be viewed online at: http://images.library.uiuc.edu/projects/ . To learn more about DMRC, visit: http://images.library.uiuc.edu/dmrc.htm . To schedule an appointment, please call 244-9021 or e-mail Nuala Bennett ( nabennet@uiuc.edu ) or Trevor Jones ( trevorj@uiuc.edu ).
