Approval Plans

Approval plans and blanket orders are methods of acquiring library materials whereby a vendor selects material for us based upon a profile provided by the Library. The vendor ships materials to the Library weekly. Any material that the Library does not want can be returned to the vendor. The Library may also obtain titles via slip orders with the slips mailed or available online for selector to order from. Often, as in the case with both of the domestic approval plans, substantial discounts are offered by the vendor. These profiles are both now under review in light of the changes made to the autoship profile. All Univ. Presses but Cambridge and Oxford are now slips.Price cap is at $150.00 for Trade autoships. Those not on autoship are available as slip orders and at the same discount.

The UIUC Library has four approval plans:

                    1.  Domestic Publisher based approval plan (including Oxford UP and Cambridge UP)
                    2.  Domestic University Press Blanket approval plan
                    3.  British Publisher based approval plan
                    4.  British University Press approval plan

Note: PBAB and UP approval books are changed every Wednesday morning and they remain on display for two weeks.Sometimes books remain on display an extra week to make up for holidays.
